National Cheng Kung University Hospital (NCKUH)celebrates its 37th anniversary today, with a commemorative event centered on the theme of ESG-driven sustainable development. The celebration not only honors the dedication and contributions of all staff in clinical care, education, research, and administration over the years but also reaffirms the hospital’s commitment to advancing intelligent management alongside sustainable operations.
Dr. Ching-Wei Lee, President of NCKUH, emphasized that the hospital upholds its mission in medical education, clinical research, and social service. NCKUH continues to implement comprehensive sustainability strategies across three key dimensions: Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). In alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Taiwan’s national “Health for All” policy, the hospital is actively building a healthcare system that is patient-centered, employee-supportive, and socially trusted.
The 2024 NCKUH Sustainability Report, released earlier this year, systematically discloses progress on seven material sustainability topics, reflecting the hospital’s concrete actions and long-term commitment to sustainable development. With a strong focus on digital transformation and smart healthcare, the hospital aims to enhance service quality and medical efficiency, pursuing a win-win vision for patients, staff, and the environment.
The anniversary event featured a range of low-carbon awareness and interactive initiatives, such as promotional booths for the “Cheng-E Parking” app and the “YouBike Carbon Reduction Ledger.” These activities encouraged both staff and the public to support energy conservation and carbon reduction through everyday actions. The “NCKUH Parking” app provides real-time information on hospital shuttle buses and nearby parking availability, helping visitors optimize transportation options and reduce wait times. Meanwhile, the YouBike campaign promotes green commuting, where users can track their carbon reduction mileage through an app and redeem eco-friendly rewards—fostering healthy lifestyles while supporting environmental goals.
In response to the global climate crisis, Dr. Lee noted that NCKUH is committed to deepening its green healthcare initiatives and building an environment conducive to sustainable development. Through a dual-axis transformation strategy—integrating ESG practices with digital innovation—the hospital continues to improve operational efficiency, drive carbon reduction, and work hand-in-hand with the community to create a sustainable and inclusive healthcare future.
