NCKUH Receives the Model Award in the “Talent Development” Category of the Global Views Healthcare Sustainability Awards

Four Strategic Pillars to Cultivate a New Generation of Healthcare Professionals

National Cheng Kung University Hospital (NCKUH), with its “Talent Development and Leadership Enhancement Program” at the core, stood out at the 2026 Global Views ESG Healthcare Sustainability Awards and received the Model Award in the “Talent Development” category, reflecting its strong foundation in talent cultivation and forward-looking approach to governance. This honor not only highlights NCKUH’s strong organizational resilience in a rapidly changing healthcare environment, but also recognizes its outstanding achievements in treating talent as a core asset for sustainable development.

Four Core Strategies: In-Depth Transformation from Global Perspectives to Digital Governance

NCKUH anchors its talent development strategy in four key pillars: “global engagement, management and governance, professional advancement, and teaching and mentorship.” For international professional development, the hospital provides paid leave while maintaining employment and has established a Knowledge Management (KM) System to ensure that cutting-edge international medical knowledge is effectively brought back to the hospital and translated into clinical practice. In evidence-based medicine training, NCKUH pioneered a “coaching team” model. Through immersive interprofessional workshops and lunchtime academic salons, the program aims to embed evidence-based competencies into the professional DNA of healthcare personnel.

To enhance management effectiveness, NCKUH has introduced the A3 problem-solving approach and situational leadership simulations to strengthen the decision-making perspectives and cross-functional collaboration capabilities of mid- and senior-level managers. At the same time, to further improve teaching quality, the hospital has implemented a “dual-instructor differentiated teaching model” and digitalized the assessment mechanisms for Milestones and Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs). Through big data analytics, NCKUH can accurately track educational progress, creating a medical education model that is both standardized and highly flexible.

Excellence Demonstrated through Data: Sustainable Momentum Driven by Research and Education

Between 2024 and 2025, NCKUH invested nearly NT$45 million in cultivating its talent base. The results have been remarkable: the hospital earned four gold, three silver, and three bronze awards in national evidence-based medicine competitions. Over the past five years, its faculty members have also collectively published more than 274 papers in SCI-indexed international journals, demonstrating internationally competitive research capacity.

In terms of translating educational initiatives into measurable quality outcomes, the implementation of the dual-instructor model helped increase the medical student pass rate for the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) from 98.7% to 100%, while teaching satisfaction consistently received perfect scores. In addition, NCKUH professionals have been invited to participate in the development of multiple international clinical guidelines, including those for acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease, demonstrating the hospital’s success in translating its academic and research capabilities into internationally influential standards of medical practice.

Deepening Sustainable Talent Development: Building a Comprehensive Healthcare Ecosystem

Receiving the Model Award is both an honor and a commitment to further advancing sustainability. NCKUH will continue to optimize the composition of its coaching faculty and expand the successful experience of the “dual-instructor model” and “evidence-based learning pathway” across the hospital’s core specialties. Guided by the principles of ESG and sustainable governance, NCKUH will continue to make systematic investments in value creation, cultivate a strong pipeline of highly qualified healthcare professionals, and lead Taiwan’s healthcare sector toward greater alignment and shared progress with international trends.
