National Cheng Kung University Hospital Partners with TAISE to Launch Sustainability Manager Training Program, Joining Alliance Hospitals to Advance a New Chapter in Healthcare Sustainability

Cross-Hospital Learning to Build a Healthcare Sustainability Ecosystem in Southern Taiwan

To address the challenges of global climate change and fulfill the social responsibility of healthcare institutions, National Cheng Kung University Hospital (NCKUH), in collaboration with the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE) and in support of the Healthy Taiwan Cultivation Plan, launched the “Corporate Sustainability Manager – NCKUH Special Training Program.” The program brings together managers and staff from multiple departments within NCKUH, as well as members of its hospital alliance, including NCKUH Dou-Liou Branch, Tainan Hospital of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Sinhua Branch of Tainan Hospital, Ministry of Health and Welfare, and Kuo General Hospital. Through an eight-day training program, participants are being equipped with an international perspective on sustainability while integrating the core values of ESG—environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and corporate governance—into healthcare processes.

The training program covers climate change risk management, sustainability report preparation, and analysis of international sustainability assessment indicators. Participants include senior management from the participating hospitals. Through interdisciplinary dialogue and discussion, the program aims to build consensus across the healthcare system on sustainable development. Moving forward, these sustainability management seed personnel will return to their respective hospitals to promote more resilient and inclusive healthcare services.

The launch of the Sustainability Manager Training Program is only the beginning. NCKUH will continue to deepen collaboration with its alliance hospitals through resource sharing and knowledge transfer, working together to address the challenges of ESG transformation and contribute to building an inclusive, low-carbon, and sustainable healthcare environment.
